Safety Information:

Necklaces:

Can i give the necklace to my baby?

No - they must always be worn by an adult due to the long cord.

Warning: Gumigem necklace - children & babies must only interact with necklace when worn by an adult due to long cord and risk of strangulation. This is not a toy.

It is safe for baby to handle and chomp on while the ADULT wears it?

Babies love to do this, while sitting on your knee or breastfeeding. They are washable too! Plus, they come with a handy Breakaway clasp for added comfort and safety of the adult wearer. Please ensure your clasp is in good working order. Necklaces are not toys and therefore are required to meet the general product saftey standards, however as we recognise these will be gummed by babies, we have had them tested for toxicity and small parts to the European, Amercian and Australian & Newzealand standards.

Bangles:

Bangles are suitable from birth without supervision, people love the bangles as they can wear them, meaning they don't have to remember to pack a teething toy, but can hand it to their baby when they are fussy!

Bangles - suitable as unsupervised teething toys from birth and carry the CE Mark, they are also CPSIA compliant and tested to Australian & New Zealand standards AS/NZS ISO 8124 - 1: 2010+A1:2011, 8129-2:2009 & 8124 - 3:2003

Breakaway clasp:

Our bespoke breakaway clasps provide additional comfort and are set to break apart at approximately 2.3KG's of pressure (5llbs), this means if baby gives you a strong tug, the clasp will pop aprt and save any neck discomfort.

Children with sensory issues:

We often get asked if this jewellery is ok for children perhaps with a sensory processing disorder that have a need to chew, please visit our sister site www.chewigem.co.uk for more information.

Is it safe?

Yes. The silicone we use is lead, latex, BPA, PVC & phtalate free, they are totally non toxic and so are the cords. Silicone is ideal for this as its odourless, tasteless and will not support the growth of bacteria or mould.

KEY POINTS:

Our Necklace Jewellery is intended for an adult to wear and children must only have access to it when worn by an adult.

The parts are suitable for handling and chomping.

There is a risk of strangulation if you were to leave your child unattended with a necklace.

Bangles are safe to be left unattended with a child. Our test reports and safety certificates are available on request. We pass the necessary sections of EN71 part 1 for toxicity and complete regular testing on our products.

Will my baby break the jewellery?

Our jewellery is hard wearing and will not tear and break off, any indents will usually pop back out within 24 hours...(although the silicone is not entirely immune from damage). We recommend checking your jewellery regularly for signs of damage and discard if any damage is present.

Will it mean my baby will think it's ok to play on any jewellery?

Well, let's be honest until the little nippers can take instruction, they'll do that anyway! Many mums will just stop wearing jewellery for this reason, but now you can. As soon as they are old enough, you can encourage them to not chomp, and go back to wearing other necklaces, unless of course you still love your GUMIGEM ®.

Where is your stuff made?

All our pieces are designed by us in bonny Scotland. When we started out, we were proud to have them manufactured in the UK. However a few years ago we made the difficult decision to move operations to China. Whilst we would love to have supported a UK factory, we found we could have our products made ethically for less, which ultimately meant we could pass onto you the customers those savings. But MOST importantly safety testing showed they met the same standards, so we were loosing nothing by making this move.

One thing that was extremely important to us was ensuring our chosen factory met our strong ethics surrounding human rights and quality standards. We have a firm qualitiy control agreement in place with the factory and it does not only meet our standards, but often exceeds them.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Items ordered Monday - Friday before 3pm and in stock will be dispatched the same day. Anything ordered after 3pm or over a weekend or bank holiday will be dispatched the next working day. You will receive an email confirming dispatch. Once things are in the postal system it is outwith our hands. But generally they are pretty good and you can expect your order within a few days.

What is your exchange/refund policy?

We will issue a full refund for any products you are unsatisfied with provided you contact us within 7 working days of delivery. Returned items should be in a saleable condition.

Do we own our own factory? What are your Ethical and Qulaity Controls?

Like a lot of retailers (from Apple to Primark) we source our products from countries overseas and as such we do not own the companies or factories that make our products. However we do have a strong sense of responsibility to the workers in those factories, our directors and of course our customers. We have a strict code of conduct which has been agreed between us and the factory. We have an agreement which is based on the ETI (Ethical Trading initiative) base code and so is compliant with the ILO (International Labour Organisation).

This covers things like safe and hygenic working conditions, a living wage, fair treatment, no child labour, working hours, discrimination etc. On top of that we have a very stict quality control agreement with the factory ensuring our high standards are met. Both of the above can give you total peace of mind you are buying a good quality product from an ethical organisation, who ensures we keep tight control over quality and ethics at all times.

How Green are you?

We do our best to be as Green as can be. All the plastics in our packaging are made of reclyced plastics and Silicone its self is a naturally occuring organic compound . Even in our offices we try to be paperless when we can and use cloud based systems. Our products are also produced in a factory which is enviromentally and socailly responsible.

Please feel free to contact us with any further questions you may have.
